To pursue a noble venture in community has been my foremost passion. I had been into serving people since I was in my primary education days.
It was assumed that those who excel academically should be tasked to lead the class. Not long after I graduated grade 5 from Miputak West Elementary School as Second Honors I was elected as the first Vice President in its history.
Then there my passion for community sprung. It was first an appreciation to leadership and the things you can do. During those days, to aim for higher position is prestige and honor. You get to be called “leader”, “president” and anything you want your subject to call you.
It was in my high school days in Andres Bonifacio College where I developed my skills in writing. I can’t call anyone of my teachers as mentor. The fact that they had neglected us so-called nerds for the ‘cool dudes’. Unfortunately, I was no ‘cool dude’ during my first 2-years in high school. That left me no option to express my opinions about things and how they happen on my own way.
Writing began with my simple appreciation of the language, syntax and the effective use of words to rely the information. I was never a bookworm, but I appreciate the dust-filled books of the library as a haven for new information.
Internet was scarce in 1992 and we are forced to smell the scent of the old books should we have any topics to be discussed in class. I tried joining the Blue Quill — the official high school student publication of the school.
